An exploration in texture.
String and Bone is a collection of prints and textile art. I draw detailed pencil and ink images (primarily botanical) which are then digitally printed onto fabric to create a unique series of textiles. Finally, I add embroidery! The embroidery is all self taught, I approach it as simply drawing with thread.
I started my little studio a few years ago after I left what was supposed to be my perfect 9-5 job.
Working for a large company and interpreting their creative vision instead of my own, was not for me. So I decided to put my BFA/Drawing major to use and start my own business.
My studio is located in Winnipeg, MB. It’s a home studio so you won’t find my work at one brick and mortar location, but I have several local stockists and you can always find me online.
String and Bone has had a few incarnations along the way, the products and imagery evolving over the years. When I started I made pillows, tote bags and a selection of home decor. However in the last couple of years I have re-focused my energy on creating artwork.
My favourite imagery has always been inspired by nature. I love plants and gardening. Botanical sketches, floral patterns, and still life paintings, are my favourite source material. My work is full of flowers, vines, leaves, birds and insects. I’m currently working on a detailed series of mushrooms and moss.
